Projects
We keep our promises as well as our clients. Marchbid is behind a number of pioneering projects. Here are some examples.
International Social Work Agency/ International Child Protection Agency.
The work we have done on a feasibility study for setting up an International Social Work Agency was so well received that it was commended as the way forward in The House of Commons (Hansard 19 Jul 2004: Column 131). The innovative concept would involve coordinating information on child protection processes throughout Europe so that the welfare of vulnerable children who move from one country to another is safeguarded.
Refugee Children Integration Partnership (RCHiP)
With funding from the Home Office Social Policy Unit, we have worked with the West Midlands Local Government Authority to change the lives of young people living in the West Midlands for the better through a project called the Refugee Children Integration Partnership (RCHiP). We have drawn up a comprehensive report that addressed the problems faced by this group as well as the benefits that will be brought about by greater social cohesion. RCHiP has formed the basis of a regional refugee children’s integration strategy and informs the broader regional youth inclusion strategy. This has brought together young people from a wide range of backgrounds (refugee and non refugee) and enabled them to make their voices heard when it comes to the services which effects them.
The draft of the final report is available by using this link.

Community Integration Partnership (CIP)
The Community Integration Partnership (CIP) is a cutting edge project set up by Laurence (Marchbid Director) in partnership with the West Midlands LGA to help refugee women access employment by giving them all the help they need - including emotional support. The scheme has received national acclaim and has been so successful that previous Immigration Minister Des Browne, former Birmingham City Council Chief Executive Lynne Homer have made a point of visiting the project and engaging with the women there. This year (2005) 31 EU ministers are visiting it as it is being held up as an example of best practice. CIP has now evolved into a sustainable registered charity with an exciting agenda ahead of it.
WAM - What About Me
Marchbid was awarded funding (Home Office -Challenge Fund) to help forge closer links between refugee women at risk of social exclusion and the wider community. What About Me (WAM) looks at the issues affecting 0-5 year olds in refugee families and the access they (and their carers) have to services. A range of agencies are being consulted to produce an integrated programme for refugee Mums in the region. In keeping with our philosophy of implementing strategies based on our research, we are seeking to establish WAM as a charity in order to access sustainable resources to meet the needs identified as part of this work.
Smyle!
A new development we are proud of is the creation of a sister ‘not for profit’ company. The aim of Smyle is to promote the wellbeing of children and young people in innovative and creative ways.
WOW - What Odd Weather!
Marchbid’s know-how is also key to understanding the best way to operate programmes involving newly arrived families who come to live and work in Britain. Bolton Homes Services have commissioned Marchbid to undertake a community consultation regarding ways of ensuring the views of newly arrived families, who are at risk of social exclusion, are considered within their New & Emerging Communities Strategy.
